 School Assembly

The Head boy and Head girl both spoke to the Trustees and the School about the school's success and how much they appreciated and valued the opportunity to better themselves through education. The Trustees mentioned education as being the 'elixir' of life- interpreted by the Head girl as the 'electricity' of life!!  The school assembly can be accessed singing on UTube as 'Crossroads School assembly'

Link with St George's C of E School in Broadstairs

Crossroads choir sang some pieces that the Trustees were able to video and record for St George's. Each Crossroads class also presented the Trustees with a card to take back to present to the school. It is hoped that stronger links will build in the future, especially as St George's is raising money for a new hostel for both students and teachers for Crossroads. The choir and card presentations have been uploaded to UTube and can be accessed as:

Licence and Registration

The Trustees were encouraged that a Licence application will be submitted to the Department of Education in Kampala- approvel is expected in April 2012, which will mean that the process to full registration by the Ugandan Dept. of Education and Sport can proceed. This will mean that the examinations at the end of year 4 can be taken on the school site and not at a separate centre, saving the charity a considerable amount of money. There are likely to be some requirements to be met, not only to complete registration, but to provide higher standards. These include an assistant for the Science lab, more text books, 70 x  single seater desks for examinations, worktops and stools for the Laboratory, a teacher for the tailoring project and improvements to the building. The charity is earnestly seeking additional funding from new sponsors and schools.

Once registered as a secondary school, the reputation of the school in the community will be even further enhanced.

The maximum number of students the school will be allowed to take will be 300

Teachers Benefits

The Ugandan shilling has devalued by nearly 50% in the last 4 years and unfortunately the salaries we pay the teachers have not kept pace.  We are fortunate to have a very loyal staff, particularly the 4 that are full time, and the Head, We are urgently seeking more funding from new and existing sponsors.

Note: The charity awarded all the teachers a bonus this Christmas. The 4 full time teachers and the Maths teacher received a pay rise of 20%, the rest of the teachers received 10%.

Tailoring Project

This is due to re-start in 2012 and will be part of the curriculum for year 1.

A teacher will be recruited. Eleven sewing machines will be repaired in December at GC's cost. GC have also purchased 3 new machines. The Trustees brought out a large variety of sewing accessories when they visited in October.

Note: As at April 2012, the machines have been repaired, a teacher has been recruited and news of the re-start of the project is awaited.

Promotional Leaflet

A leaflet about the school and its requirements is now available to encourage new and existing sponsors to help. A copy has been sent to a number of local schools in mid November. Copies are available from Queens Road Baptist Church or from any of the Trustees.
