Global Challenge was set-up as an outreach charity by Queens Road Baptist Church in Broadstairs.  We work collaboratively with partners in the Soroti region of Uganda to initiate and maintain a range of projects focusing on education, alleviating poverty and establishing initiatives aimed at improving self-sufficiency.  Over the past ten years, we have built up closely established personal links with co-workers in Soroti, resulting in a high level of accountability.  Our projects are closely monitored and reviewed with our partners. Global Challenge is run by non-salaried volunteers. It seeks to find practical ways of bringing social justice and equality to those in need.

About Us Main Picture

2005 visit

The History - In 2001 a team of nine visited Tororo and Soroti and were able to conduct a number of village clinics. The team included a doctor, trained medical staff and two dentists. Hundreds of people from neighbouring villages attended the clinics during the two week period and the team was able to provide some basic nutritional education.

2006 visit

By 2003 strong links had been made with our Ugandan partners and a number of smaller groups from QRBC made visits to help establish projects that in consultation with local people would provide support to the community. At that time the “keep fit cow project” was started with support from the local community in Broadstairs.

Following the terrible problems with the LRA between 2001-2005, a team of twenty visited   Uganda for two weeks.  It was during this time that the building at Nakatunya was added to and the sewing project began. It became clear following this visit that if the projects were to move forward and become sustainable it would need a dedicated group who could secure long-term funding and develop further projects. Out of that, Global Challenge was born.

The Way We Operate PDF Print E-mail

As stated above, our full 'Governing Document' and 'Objectives' can be viewed on the Charity Commission's public charity register, www.charitycommission.gov.uk

We keep the costs of running the charity to the absolute minimum. The charity has to pay bank and internet charges and we may need to charge the economy return air fare for 1 trustee to visit Uganda each year. Apart from these costs, 100% of donated funds go directly to the charity's work. We claim no personal expenses whatsoever.

We usually meet monthly and follow an agenda, which includes a review of the previous meeting's minutes and action points, and a Treasurers report. We hold information meetings to which all supporters are invited.

Our financial year runs from March 1st to February 28th (29th). Our Chairman is elected in March each year.

Our six trustees are all actively committed to the life of Queens Road Baptist Church, to which the charity is linked.

We will always act with integrity, avoiding any conflicts of interest and will ensure the charity is well run and solvent and achieves its objectives within the framework of charity law.

We have a duty of care to use our personal skills and experience to the full and will take professional advice if necessary.

We each have Criminal Records Bureau clearance and have adopted the child protection policy of the 'Churches child protection and advisory service'.

We are committed to the work of Global Challenge and our partnership with our Ugandan friends
